The underlying reason for the failure of Biden’s ambitious climate plans is that progressives remain dogmatically pro-renewables and anti-nuclear. After I and a handful of others spent much of 2019 criticizing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her anti-nuclear Green New Deal, she said in May of that year that she would “keep the door open” on nuclear power. But in October she advocated the closure of New York’s Indian Point nuclear plant. When the plant closed earlier this year, natural gas use and carbon emissions increased, as my colleagues and I had long predicted.”

A Note To Readers

We begin with, what else? The drought. First some maps from the U.S. Drought Monitor. Then a summary of the end of the “rain year.” Rain, and more generally precipitation, does have a calendar. It runs from July 1 to June 30 each year. And, if you did not know it already, the past year was one of the driest on record.

When one drives through the Central Valley, especially during the drought of 2012-2106, one would often see signs along the road that read something like, “It is a man-made drought.” The next section of the report addresses that.

A Wall Street Journal article addresses this topic: “Drought’s Toll on U.S. Agriculture Points to Even-Higher Food Prices.”

Fire season is now upon us and there are at least three major fires now burning in the northern part of the state. The largest is the Lava Fire on the slope of Mount Shasta. The Lava Fire has brought to the news another topic: The state will provide $100 million to bailout the marijuana dispensaries, even as, the illegal pot farms being destroyed by the Lava fire has set off a conflict with the growers resulting in one grower being shot to death by law enforcement. Several articles on those topics are included below.

Next up is a discussion of the affect the drought and hot temperatures are having on the power supply. That is found under the title, “More demand, less supply: Drought and heat test U.S. power grid.”

The final item in this week’s report is some excerpts from an article by Michael Shellenberger, “The Real Reason Biden’s Climate Agenda Is Failing Is Because It’s Anti-Nuclear,” which makes what should be the obvious issue in the infrastructure and electricity question,
