A Note to Readers
Yes, the drought is still with us, though its intensity saw a sharp decline due to the December storms, but January has been dry and the advantage gained in December is evaporating quickly. With two more months of the rainy season, what the picture will be then is unknown.
Beginning the report with the Drought Monitor, we see that the rapid decrease in the intensity of the drought has stopped completely.
Despite that the Water Board has announced it is increasing the allocation of water to water contractors for this year from zero percent of what they requested, to 15%. That is welcomed, of course, but will not make a great difference for the areas of the state still in serious drought and with low reservoir levels.
